by Marianne Dowen -Coffee With Jesus-

As I was seeking the Lord in prayer, the word “OASIS” came to my mind. My first thought was of a hot, dry desert. I immediately searched the scriptures containing “OASIS”. Then I went to the dictionary to find the definition of “OASIS”.

Definition: A place of abundance and shelter – (a water source that springs up from underground to the surface – aquifer)

A fertile spot in a desert where water is found.

Spiritually, an oasis is wherever God may be found – (a dwelling place)

God turns the parched, dry land into WATER – Springs into pools of water!

  1. It is a place of rest
  2. It is a place of solace
  3. It is a dwelling place with Jesus

God promises to supply our needs even during the times we are wandering in the desert. Since God is omniscient, the need is already supplied, before we even enter an oasis.  We need to do our part in seeking it out. On our journey through the desert, there will be many mirages (distractions, temptations). Do not fall for their deceit.  Their job is to make you linger in the desert, to stumble and fall.

Is there a thirst that leads you astray? What mirages have left you with empty promises?

Keep your eyes on the source (Jesus) and He will lead you right to the water’s edge, where he promises we will never thirst again.

John 7:37-38

… Jesus spoke, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scriptures have said, “Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

If we allow the refreshing water to flow over, in and through us  – it will produce new fruit. What fruit will it produce?

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control

Have the trials in life left you feeling weak and parched? Do not let these dry times overtake you. Everyone goes through them. Start drinking from the refreshing waters of God’s Word.

As you do – declare His promises out loud. It sets your spirit in alignment with His.

Psalm 107:35

35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.

Acts 3:19

19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord…

Where is your Oasis (dwelling place)?

How often do you dwell in this place with Jesus for a time of refreshing?
