Each season comes with its own brand of weather. Often, weather conditions will be dangerous and destructive.

Hurricanes, for instance, usually bring with them a deluge of rain. We have all seen the news of flooding and mudslides because of heavy rains.

On the other hand, we have also experienced periods of drought. The ground becomes parched and cracked. Crops burn up in the heat and water supplies run short.

In these situations, the question of everyone is; when is it ever going to rain?

Rain spells and drought spells might be comparable to our own spiritual conditioning.

How is your spiritual condition today? Is your spiritual life dry and parched…or, drenched in the overflowing presence of the Holy Spirit?

The Prophet Hosea shows us:

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.”  (Hosea 10:12)

What rain does for the natural surroundings, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit does for our spiritual conditioning. The text from Hosea reveals some responsibilities we all face if we expect the Holy Spirit to fall like rain upon us.

First, we need to set the groundwork. Our spirit will become like dry fallow ground if it has not been touched by the plow for a period of time. Sowing seed on such ground will never produce a harvest. Even when rains come, the unprepared ground will not produce a crop. Such preparation precedes blessings. There can be no spiritual harvest until the fallow ground is broken up.

Our preparation requires a sincerity and intensity in our prayer life. Then, we must have a fervent commitment to a study in the Word of God. We must allow and ser time aside to wait upon the Lord. The result of our preparation and waiting on the Lord is God’s blessings.

The farmer learns to sow the right seed after the ground is prepared. We must sow the right seed. The right seed will produce the right results. Sadly, we dwell in a very worldly-minded society. The spirit of the age can even infiltrate the hearts of God’s people. The church has become inundated with the ungodliness of the world. Living a holy life has never been popular. If we fail to sow the seed of righteous living…the rain will not produce a spiritual harvest. Be separated from the influences of the world system. God’s Word tells us to “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 6:17)

Children of God…seeking to live in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit…should expect to get wet! The drenching of the Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin and a real desire to seek righteous living. He brings new life and spiritual enthusiasm to the church.

Getting drenched in the Holy Spirit is our personal revival! When the rain comes…it will make all of our efforts, all of our commitments, and all of our sacrifices worthwhile. The season for a spiritual rain outpouring is now!
